How-To Customize Trapster’s Display on Your iPhone

Google Buzz

Have you ever bought a new cell phone, pulled it out of the box along with the charger, and tossed everything else aside not even thinking of the papers and booklets that are tucked within that shiny neat packaging? I can honestly say I have never once opened a cell phone user guide. My philosophy has always been to just figure it out as I go. It’s more of a subconscious decision I must of made with myself years ago that just stuck.

Therefore, I’m always shocked when I learn something new about my cell or come across a new feature. I will admit, sometimes I feel like an idiot when I make that big “OOOOOOOH” noise as I realize I could of made my life ten times easier or saved myself a gang of time.

Which was the root of the problem to begin with… time. Finding the time to sit down and read a cell phone user guide. Let alone building enough motivation to even think about doing it.

And this brings me to why we think you might like this little ditty. Here is a quick and easy “how-to customize your Trapster map display” guide on your iPhone.

First select “Options” in the top right. Next select “Display” from the drop-down. You should now see a screen like this:

Display Options Menu

You will notice several options available. I bet you didn’t even know they were there, huh? hehe

Here is an example and description for each display option available.

1. Traps – This options allows you to toggle the trap icons on and off. You will still receive voice alerts for approaching traps but the icons will not appear on the map. If you wish to change your voice settings, you can do so in the “setup” menu

Traps - Display Options

2. My Trips – The navigation line doesn’t show as you record your trips. However, you can still record a trip and the trips toolbar is still visible.

My Trip - Display Options

3. Traffic & Incidents – Not to pick favorites, but this is my favorite display function. This options shows traffic, incidents, and even road closures on your map, the data is collected from Google Maps.

Traffic Incidents - Display Options

4. Routes – This options toggles your routes navigation line on and off.

Routes - Display Options

5. Search Results – And lastly, this options makes the search result markers disappear. You are still able to preform a search but the purple search markers for each option will not display.

Search Results - Display Options

Now you might ask why we have these display options. The answer is the map can get crowded and busy with traps, traffic, routes, and/or trips. We wanted to make it easy for you to see exactly what you want (dramatic pause) when you want it.

Hope this helps! Is there a display feature you would like to see added? Or one we could improve on? If you have any suggestions or comments please let us know.

[...] If you’re not familiar with the driving directions feature on Trapster, you’re missing out on some great stuff. We all know the iPhone’s biggest flaw is only being able to run one app at a time. So to have an app that serves multiple functions is key. That’s why we built Trapster to include the trap info you need, the driving directions you love, and the ability to record road trips, search (who doesn’t need a taco shop at 2am?), and view traffic. Hi Trapster Fans,

It is an excellent idea. Works on my iPhone well until….you run out battery, or the G3 coverage becomes Edge. Do not dare using it outside the country of your contract because whatever you might save by not being trapped by local Law Enforcement Units will be extracted from you by force by your mobile telephone service provider with the the next bill.

I have the latest version of Trapster (downloaded last night) and do not see the Traffic and Incidents Map display option, I do see the other 4.

Love it, use it. would be cool if you could tag state patrol gps frequencys, the tech guys truncate it on the various state sites, and you can listen to their air, like the old bear scanners, I hear they have to put those out by law, fcc. My biggest issue is that so many people put traps on that every ten feet, there is a warning, until I get out of the city. Our state, GA, just adopted a “super speeder” law that tags big $$$ on top of your ticket (anything over 70 on surface and 80 on highways). Get a car charger and plug it in. It's worth it. Saved me more than my expensive Valentine, now that every car has infared cruse control and crap that sets off the laser detector.

Your actually in a better way. As mentioned in a previous post, my Atlanta people mark every 10' of road with traps. It's annoying and negates the powerful tool of Trapster. It would be better if people only confirmed where they saw a car pulled over and not just a cop car. or flash a beta system to run for one month and overlay it on the old data to clean up people that are over posting. My cop buddy actually said they will go on themselves and post traps all over as counter intel, and hide in the open spaces??? Cool App, very interesting how it has evolved.
