How-To Use the “My Trips” Feature on Your iPhone

Google Buzz

Heading out on the open road? Going to visit Granny for the weekend in another state? Or just taking off to a friends house 30 minutes away? Whatever the reason or destination, Trapster’s “My Trips” feature for the iPhone application can come in handy for road trips.

Use your iPhone to log your adventure and share it with family and friends on Twitter, Facebook, or even Trapster.com. It’s an awesome feature that lets you stop or pause your trip, insert trip points – “2AM Micky-D’s Run”, and even add crazy pictures along the way to keep everyone in the loop.

Not to mention, it’s a great way to pass the time if you’re a passenger, especially when that same mountain of dirt has been passing you by for the past five hours. If you’ve ever driven through Texas or New Mexico (states we also happen to love) before, you know what I’m talking about!

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use the My Trips feature:

Step 1: Options > My Trips

Click the “Options” button in the top right of the screen and select “My Trips.”

Options > My Trips

Step 2: Add New Trip

Next click the button with the plus sign.

Step 3: Trip Options, Say What?

Trip Status: If your trip status is set to off, it turns off the trip and does not record anymore. Visible allows you to see a saved trip that is not currently recording. And lastly, record, shows your trip route on the map, the trip option buttons on the map, and records your trip route as you travel.

Who Can See My Trip On The Web:
You have three options. Anyone can see your trip. Only you, which means your trip is private. Or by URL. The URL for your trip can be found on your profile page on Trapster.com.

Share My Trip:
Takes you to a screen to email your trip to family and friends. Or depending on your settings, posts to your twitter and/or facebook (more details below.)

Let’s add a photo and name our trip.

After adding a photo, click on the button with the date and time (date and time are auto generated for each new trip.)

MyTrip Naming

Now that you have added a main image and named your trip, click “Save.” Your trip is now listed on the Trip Summary page. Select the Trapster button to be directed back to the map.

A Sample Trip

Sometimes the best way to really see the value of a feature like My Trips, is to see it in action. Pete, our fearless leader and consummate road warrior, is a big fan of the feature (which makes sense I suppose) and publicly shares a number of his trips with Trapster users. We’ve decided to highlight one especially cool trip he took with Jay, and shared using the Trapster iPhone application, a little while back.
