Trapster 4.5 for iOS Released! Speed Limit Data FTW!

Google Buzz

Today we released Trapster 4.5 for iOS! This update introduces NAVTEQ maps to our iOS users. Using this NAVTEQ map gives us the green light to tap into a HUGE amount of new data. You will notice improved map caching and real time traffic overlays. In addition, you will also be aware of the speed limit of the road you are currently driving on. You will be visually notified if the posted speed limit changes. Now if that isn’t cool enough, you will also notice the new speedometer! Monitor your speed, and receive visual notifications when your speed exceeds the posted speed limit. We are also rapidly recruiting new users from across the globe. To help them out, we have added two new languages: Arabic & Portuguese. To get 4.5, please visit www.trapster.com from your mobile device, or visit the App Store.

NAVTEQ Map

With this new map, Trapster will be taking advantage of one of the most data rich maps available. Look for future updates to tap into more of the data NAVTEQ collects! If you don’t know about NAVTEQ, here’s the Wikipedia version:

NAVTEQ’s underlying map database is based on first-hand observation of geographic features rather than relying on official government maps.

It provides data used in a wide range of applications, including automotive navigation systems for many car makers, accounting for around 85% of market share.

They provide maps to some major portable GPS device’s, and also websites like Yahoo! Maps, Bing Maps, and MapQuest.

Also SirusXM uses NAVTEQ to display traffic data on navigation systems, and partners with various third party agencies and companies to provide government and transportation related services.

Speedometer + Speed Limit Display

Speed Limits: The speed limit of the road you are driving on will be displayed. You will be visually notified if the posted limit changes.

Speedometer: Monitor your rate of travel, and receive visual notifications when your speed exceeds the current speed limit.

New Languages

Plain and simple, the more Trapster users, the more accurate the trapmap will be. Adding new languages will add to our rapidly growing community. There are now over 14 MILLION Trapster users worldwide!
